- Newsletters (emails)
- Promotional campaigns
- Other digital channels, such as WhatsApp, SMS, or social media
⚠️ ig.me link limitations:
|
Step 1: Find your Instagram username
Go to your profile in the Instagram app. Your username appears at the top of the screen, just above your profile picture. Example: @minhalojaz
Step 2: Build the link using the ig.me format
Use this link template:
https://ig.me/m/USERNAME
Replace USERNAME
with your actual username, without the @.
Example using the username @minhalojaz:
https://ig.me/m/minhalojaz
👉 This will be the link you share.
Step 3: Test the link on your mobile
Paste the link in your mobile browser and check whether it redirects to the conversation with your Instagram account.
Step 4: Share the link on your channels
Now that the link is working, you can place it in:
- The “Contact Us” button on your website
- Marketing emails
- Stories, QR codes, social media
- WhatsApp or SMS campaigns
What happens when a customer uses the ig.me link
When a customer accesses your Instagram account through an ig.me link (e.g., https://ig.me/m/minhalojaz
), Instagram displays an informational message at the start of the conversation, which varies depending on the customer’s history with your account:
New conversation: the customer will see this message
“You opened this conversation from a link. [business name] will see that you used their link when you send a message.”
Existing conversation: the message will be
“You opened this conversation from a link. [business name] may see that you used their link. If you no longer want to receive messages from them, you can turn messages off.”
These messages are automatically generated by Instagram and help your business identify that the contact was initiated or resumed via the ig.me link. This allows you to better understand the origin of the conversation and apply the appropriate context during service.
